What is an MXC?
The right rim = the right grip
OTK’s range covers everything from cold/wet conditions to hot weather, and even tracks with heavy rubber build-up.
Here’s your quick guide to each model – what it does, and when it works best.
OTK’s most widely used performance rim in professional karting.
The MXC is forged magnesium with a low air volume, which reduces pressure increase over a stint and provides controlled flex – perfect for hot days and/or high-grip conditions where temperature management is crucial.
Choose MXC when: The track has strong grip or high temperatures, and you want to keep tire temperatures consistently lower throughout the run.
The MXQ is OTK’s evolution of the low-volume concept, manufactured in forged magnesium.
The reduced air volume helps control pressure and temperature, allowing the tire to maintain more consistent grip throughout the heat. The MXQ is a strong all-round performance rim, offering slightly more bite and traction than the MXC, without becoming too aggressive.
Choose MXQ when: Grip levels are medium to high, and you want the optimal balance between cooling, traction, and stability.
The AXP is OTK’s dedicated wet-condition rim.
Made from aluminum, it helps the tires build temperature and air pressure faster – a crucial advantage when the track is fully wet and grip levels are otherwise very low.
Choose AXP when: It’s raining and you need maximum performance on a soaking wet track.
The MXJ is OTK’s classic magnesium rim, produced with a cast construction.
This gives it more flex than the forged models (such as MXC/MXQ). The added flexibility allows the tire to heat up faster – providing extra grip on cold or slippery tracks. The MXJ is therefore a natural choice in medium to low grip conditions or when the track has not yet built up rubber.
Choose MXJ when: Grip is low to medium, the temperature is cool, or you want a versatile rim that works well in most situations.
Specially developed for the Mini category.
The MXC Minikart is a forged magnesium rim that gives junior drivers the same advantages as the MXC: stable temperature, low air volume, and high performance – but in sizes suited for Mini karts (115/145 mm). It helps manage tire temperatures on fast, rubbered-in tracks and provides more consistent grip throughout the heat.
Choose MXC Minikart when: The Mini driver is racing on medium to high grip tracks and needs maximum performance and temperature control.
The AXJ is OTK’s aluminum rim, primarily used in the Mini classes.
Aluminum conducts heat differently than magnesium, and the AXJ helps the tires reach operating temperature faster – perfect for cold days or whenever quick “switch-on” of the tire is important.
Choose AXJ when: Conditions are cool and you want rapid tire warm-up – especially in the Mini classes.
